Operated by the Hancock County Arts Council, Summit Gallery features works by local and regional artists, which are rotated on a quarterly basis to feature new talent from the Top of West Virginia.
Summit Gallery is located in the Top of West Virginia Convention & Visitors Bureau office at 3393 Main St., Weirton. Hours are 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Monday-Friday by appointment. A wine and cheese artists’ reception is held quarterly for each new installation.
Check the Summit Gallery Facebook page for regular news about quarterly receptions, other events and artist information!
The original vision for the gallery was conceived by Danny Greathouse, Executive Director of the Top of WV CVB, and Nancy Wright, Chair of the Hancock Co. Arts Council. In preparation for the gallery opening, Greathouse and the CVB invested in a full renovation of the gallery space and invited Kenneth L. Morgan, Chair and Professor of Fine Arts and Curator of Permanent Art Collections at Bethany College, to advise on colors and display options.
Created in 2008, the Hancock County Arts Council sponsors a number of arts events, including the annual Holiday Home Tour in November, the New Cumberland Fall River Fest in September, and, as a part of the Homer Laughlin Tent Sale, a Children’s Plate Painting Event that draws approximately 250 children each year.
The HCAC also works with the Hancock County Courier to offer “Poets Out Loud,” which encourages local poets and artists to publish their works to share them with the public. The HCAC meets monthly. Anyone interested in promoting the arts is welcome to attend. Call the Top of WV CVB offices at 304-797-7001 for more information.
