Celebrating 75 Years of Movie Magic: The Hilltop Drive-In Theatre

The Hilltop Drive-In Theatre stands as a shining beacon of nostalgia, entertainment, and community spirit in Chester, WV. Now entering its 75th year, this beloved local treasure has delighted generations of moviegoers with classic charm and unforgettable experiences under the stars.

Founded in 1950 by Charles Pittenger, the Hilltop Drive-In was born during the golden age of drive-in theaters. Today, it remains a family legacy, proudly operated by Charles’ son, Roy Pittenger, who has continued his father’s tradition of delivering quality entertainment in a welcoming atmosphere. Roy also continues to partner with Katie Beaver to insure the success of the drive in.

Building on the momentum of a successful season last year, the 2025 season is already off to an incredible start, thanks to the overwhelming support of the public. Beginning June 4th, the Hilltop will shift to a Wednesday through Sunday schedule, giving patrons more chances to enjoy their favorite flicks. As a fun bonus, guests can look forward to karaoke nights before the show, adding a personal touch of local talent and entertainment.

Beyond the silver screen, Hilltop continues to expand its offerings with live entertainment typically scheduled once a month on Saturdays. These special nights turn the drive-in into a mini festival of music, community, and fun, perfect for families, date nights, and friends looking to make memories.

This year’s lineup is expected to run through mid-October, ending with their popular Trunk or Treat event — a family-friendly Halloween celebration. Even more exciting, there’s potential for live bands to perform in September and October, ensuring the season ends on a high note with music, movies, and festive cheer.

Visitors will notice recent upgrades throughout the facility, such as digital projection, enhancing enjoyment without losing the vintage charm that makes Hilltop so special. Roy Pittenger and his team continue to invest in the future of the drive-in while honoring its cherished past.

Whether you’re reliving fond memories or discovering the magic of a drive-in for the first time, the Hilltop Drive-In Theatre offers something timeless. As it celebrates 75 years of film, fun, and family, it remains a proud symbol of Chester’s community.
