Featured Arts Council Member: Molly Mossor

Molly Mossor is the current chairman of the Top of West Virginia Arts Council (TWVAC) and is an active member of the community. Molly and her husband Jim are lifelong residents of Weirton, and share their home with their mini poodle, Cree. She has been a schoolteacher for 52 years and is still teaching today.

Molly generously volunteers her time with many local organizations. She is a member of the Weirton Women’s Club and all its departments: Art, Garden, and Literary. She is also a member of the Weirton Area Museum & Cultural Center, the Tri State Ladies Tea Society, president of the St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church’s Christian Mothers, and president of the Mary H. Weir Public Library Board.

Art, music, reading, and history are great passions for Molly. “I believe that art is the extension of each person’s own personality and feelings, and this is what makes art valuable and great,” commented Molly. A performer herself, Molly has staged reenactments of local figures important to Weirton’s history.

“The Arts Council promotes individual artists and shares their love of art with the community and gives Weirton a cultural anchor,” Molly added. Along with being the current chairman of the TWVAC, she is also the head of the reception committee, a member of the Children’s Art Committee, and frequently assists with art classes held at the gallery.

You can explore the Summit Art Gallery and shop for TWVAC members’ artwork at the Top of West Virginia CVB, located at 3539 Main Street, Weirton, WV.
