Two Day Trip with Almost Heaven (Swing) Views
The Almost Heaven Swing count in West Virginia is growing, and although the leaves are falling in Brooke and Hancock Counties, there is still time for a scenic fall trip! Whether you are just starting your swing voyage, or only have a few left to visit, we have curated a special 2-day journey so that you can check off the two northern-most swings the state!
We recommend getting in town on a Friday night so that you are able to spend a full Saturday exploring without rushing! For this itinerary, we will be beginning South and working our way North, but the schedule is flippable!
Day One:
Begin your trip at the charming Arabian Nights Bed & Breakfast, a cozy getaway in Wellsburg known for its welcoming atmosphere and themed rooms that make for a unique, unforgettable stay. With this B&B being located right in the middle of downtown Wellsburg, you’ll wake up refreshed and ready to explore the area’s best spots!
You’ll spot the Almost Heaven Swing in Wellsburg almost immediately when you walk out the front door of Arabian Nights. The scenic riverside views and iconic wooden swing offer the ideal spot for photos and a few quiet moments surrounded by nature.
Fuel up for your day-long adventure with a latte or refresher from Caffeinated Cow, an inviting little coffee shop where you can grab a pastry or breakfast sandwich to enjoy before heading outdoors.
Next, head to Brooke Hills Park, a local favorite for outdoor fun. Whether you’re up for a round of golf, a peaceful hang out by the lake, or just a walk through the park, it’s a perfect place to enjoy some fresh air.
After your morning in the park, stop by Drovers Inn, a historic tavern that’s been serving travelers since the 1800s. With its rustic charm and hearty menu, it’s the perfect spot for a satisfying lunch (we recommend the wings).
Round out your afternoon with a visit to the Brooke County Museum & Culture Center, and learn about local history through unique exhibits and artifacts that tell the story of the Ohio Valley’s past.
At this point, you’ve probably worked up an appetite for dinner and are ready to wind down. Head to Weirton and take a seat at Theo Yianni’s, one of Weirton’s favorite spots for delicious Mediterranean-inspired dishes, great service, and a relaxed atmosphere. From gyros to seafood, every meal here feels like a treat.
After a full day of exploring, spend the night and unwind at one of Weirton’s hotels, conveniently located and perfect for a restful evening.
Day Two:
No trip to the area is complete without a stop at Gus’s Goodies. Their famous doughnuts and baked goods have been a local tradition for generations, perfect for starting your morning on a sweet note.
Now that you have your tasty pastries in hand, head up river to Tomlinson Run State Park, the northernmost state park in West Virginia and home to another Almost Heaven Swing. Take in the stunning views, hike one of the park’s scenic trails, or simply relax by the water. It’s the perfect way to end your two-day adventure surrounded by natural beauty.
Take your time enjoying the beauty of the outdoors and don’t rush yourself! There is plenty of time left in the day to slowly make your way back onto the road to head home, or even to another swing location in the state! If you work your way down the Northern Panhandle, our neighbors in Wheeling and Moundsville both have swing locations.
Sometimes we need to slow down and enjoy the stunning views that surround us. In West Virginia, the backdrop of the state’s beautiful landscapes create stunning photo opps. Be sure to tag us in any photos you share of your journey on social media at #topofwv!
