Cryptids to Run Wild at 2nd Annual Folklore Fest

Cryptids to Run Wild at 2nd Annual Folklore Fest

As the leaves begin to change in the Northern Panhandle of West Virginia, cryptids have been spotted lurking around Brooke and Hancock County by many residents. The sightings include, but are not limited to, Mothman, Bigfoot, and our local Bell Hill Beast.

Actual Bigfoot sighting: Hancock County, WV

The beasts are said to be headed to the 2nd Annual Folklore Fest that is set to take place Saturday, October 21, 2023 at Gas Valley Park in New Cumberland, WV. The event is put on by Hancock County Parks & Recreation, and they do advise to bring some garlic. This is not like their usual open-air markets that are hosted at the park.

The festivities will be from noon until 5 p.m. and activities will be plentiful, including multiple costume contests (both human and pet), food vendors, artisans, a bounce house, and much more! Even if you do not plan to partake in the costume contest, sport your favorite cryptid on your outfit.

Are you busy looking for a big-footed beast when you are not at work? Bring what you’ve got to the Bigfoot calling contest for a chance to win prizes!

Don’t hunt for beasts in your free time? That’s no problem! Sit back and listen to speakers recount their creature sightings and discuss West Virginia’s cryptid history, and even see some artifacts. You may even get to meet a few of your local cryptids…

Folklore Fest is free and open to the public, with parking on site at Gas Valley Park. Those from far and wide are welcomed to join in on the shenanigans at the 2023 Folklore Fest!
