New ‘Almost Heaven’ Swing Comes to Hancock County

Hancock County’s Tomlinson Run State Park is home to a new “Almost Heaven” swing. The swings are part of a program initiated by the West Virginia Department of Tourism in 2022, and are displayed at our state’s most scenic locations. Students at the Nicholas County Career and Technical Center hand-crafted the swings with a built in “selfie station”, which encourages visitors to snap a picture and share on social media using the hashtag #almostheaven.

Rachel Keeney, the Executive Director of the Top of West Virginia Convention and Visitors Bureau, remarked that “the ‘Almost Heaven’ swings are a great way to showcase West Virginia’s beauty. It was great to collaborate with the Department of Tourism to make sure Tomlinson Run was included among the selected sites. We hope that others see our swing on social media, and are encouraged to come visit our parks to take their own photos.”

West Virginia’s northernmost swing is located along Tomlinson Run’s Jody Hulka Trail. Visitors can park near the mini golf course, and take a short walk down the trail to find the swing. Other swings in the Northern Panhandle are located at Wheeling’s Heritage Port and Moundsville’s Grand Vue Park.
