85 Years of Fiesta
The Fiesta Tableware Company is celebrating a major anniversary of their Fiesta product line. The iconic dinnerware, characterized by its bright colors and concentric embossed rings, has been in production for 85 years. Visitors can shop for their homes at the retail outlet located in Newell, West Virginia.
Formerly known as The Homer Laughlin China Company, The Fiesta Tableware Company has been manufacturing dishes in the Ohio Valley since 1871. Founded in East Liverpool by brothers Homer and Shakespeare Laughlin, the company was created with seed money acquired from a contest sponsored by the East Liverpool City Council. The pottery industry was already well established in the area, and the city council offered $5,000 to someone who would produce newly in vogue white ware. The company was moved to Newell, WV in 1907 when there was no longer room to expand in East Liverpool. The first Homer Laughlin plant in Newell was the world’s largest pottery at the time it was built. The company is family owned and operated by the fourth generation of the Wells family.
150 years later, the company still plays a significant role in the region. “Our community is extremely important to us,” said Katie Bricker, Director of Marketing for The Fiesta Tableware Company. “We would not exist without our current hardworking employees and the generations that came before them, and we are forever grateful. We give back to our community whenever we can and ensure our charitable dollars go towards making the tri-state area a better place.”
