Featured Arts Council Member: Priscilla Runkel

Priscilla Runkel has been an active member of the Top of West Virginia Arts Council (TWVAC) since it was established in April of 2008. Priscilla and her husband Tom have been residents of Weirton, West Virginia for over 50 years. They both enjoy spending time with their two children, Kelly and Thomas, as well as their grandchildren, Keira and Caden. Priscilla is a graduate of West Liberty University, and a retired elementary teacher of St. Joseph the Worker School. She is also an active member of St. Joseph the Worker Parish and Christian Mothers.

Priscilla is a very active member of the TWVAC, and has a hand in organizing a large portion of the Council’s activities. She is the current chairperson of “Every Child is an Artist” which is an ongoing project to promote the arts in the Brooke-Hancock County middle schools. The reception committee and assisting with art classes held at the Summit Art Gallery are additional ways that Priscilla participates in the Council.

TWVAC members have been hard at work raising funds to establish a “student room” which will allow a dedicated space at the gallery to display student work. “I feel introducing art at an early age gives children the opportunity to share their talent. Our gallery gives them the means to share their talent with the community.” Priscilla said.
