Frank’s Pastry Shop: Hometown, Homemade
Between touring the Fiesta Tableware factory, catching a race at Mountaineer Casino and Racetrack, and grabbing a selfie with the World’s Largest Teapot, visitors to Chester, West Virginia have a full itinerary. But starting off the day on the right foot requires the perfect morning sustenance. Every small town has its treasured doughnut shop, and Frank’s Pastry Shop takes the cake in Chester.
Hungry patrons are welcomed with the scent of freshly baked doughnuts, cakes, and pastries when they walk through the door at 430 Carolina Avenue. The family-owned bakery is a favorite of locals and a must-stop spot for visitors. Aside from delicious treats, the friendly staff and excellent service add to Frank’s charm.
Community and tradition are very important to the team at Frank’s. Frank Katzenmyer founded the bakery in 1950, and it has been going strong ever since. It was sold to Ann Reed in 1973 and then purchased by her daughter, Margie Potts in 2013. When Margie decided to retire in 2021, the bakery was purchased by current owners Sean and Dominique Adkins on October 1, 2021. The Adkins family is committed to keeping Frank’s traditions alive and adding a little flare with a few new items. Everything that was traditional to Frank’s under previous ownership remains exactly the same, most importantly, the staff.
“Frank’s has been a strong community presence since 1950. Our community has been as much of the Frank’s team as our bakers,” said Dominique. “As new owners, we have been blessed by the community for continuing to support our team and accept us as new members. We are honored to continue the Frank’s traditions by providing delicious treats to help memorialize important events in the lives of our community members.”
Since opening day, Frank’s motto has always been “Hometown, Homemade”. When visitors stop by the shop, the authentic, made-from-scratch baking makes them feel right at home.
